Keeping the Church Safe

As part of keeping Jesus Christ’s command to care for His lambs is the responsibility of making every provision possible to protect the church: the facility, the clergy and staff, and the church members and children. Today, that charge has taken on new meaning with the increase in violence and crime in the United States, especially against church establishments. The Church Protection Planning Workshop is designed to inform and equip the clergy, staff, and members on how to protect their churches.

He served with the San Diego Police Department and as a reserve office before joining the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, where he has served since August 1990 as jail and court security officer, field training officer and coordinator, and hostage negotiator, among other positions. He created the first (in the nation) Rescue Task Force concept for active shooting incidents for the Poway Fire Department and developed it into a national model.

Chris Hennessey, a former Marine, is a NRA-certified firearms instructor and a P.O.S.T.-certified instructor.
